The form is extraordinary — a wide, round, low-bellied body rising from a small flat base, its shoulder encircled by a bold band of incised four-petal pinwheel or compass rose flower marks, each flower a bold incised form with four curved petal marks radiating from a central point. Above the shoulder, a bold tapered neck rises, its surface smooth and even. At the very top, a spectacular open twisted flame or petal finial crowns the vessel — its bold twisted clay coils rising and curling inward to a bold pointed tip, creating a dramatic open lantern or flame form that catches the light beautifully.
